Our Story.

// We continue to honour Mr Elwood’s legacy by investing in initiatives that strengthen the future of our region and the wellbeing of the young people who call it home.

Youth Great Southern was formed in 2020 following a bequest from the late Mr Tony Elwood, who was deeply committed to supporting disadvantaged young people in the Great Southern. His generosity created the foundation for an organisation dedicated to strengthening youth wellbeing across our region.

Inspired by Mr Elwood’s vision, Youth Great Southern was established as a philanthropic, locally governed not‑for‑profit with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. From the beginning, our purpose has been clear:

To invest in the people, places, and partnerships that make life better for young people aged 12–25.

We focus on projects that create safe spaces, build connection, and improve access to services — recognising that regional living can present unique challenges for young people experiencing disadvantage. By working alongside local organisations and community groups, we help ensure young people have the support they need close to home.

Today, Youth Great Southern continues to honour Mr Elwood’s legacy by investing in initiatives that strengthen the future of our region and the wellbeing of the young people who call it home.
